To promote the physical and mental wellbeing of inmates and provide quality recreational activities, the Nantou Detention Center recently holds a chess competition. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from many inmates. On the competition stage, players exhibited intense focus, creating an atmosphere that was both tense and filled with camaraderie. This activity not only provided inmates a way to relieve stress but also enhanced their logical thinking and patience through the intellectual challenges of chess.

The chess competition was conducted over multiple rounds, with each match serving as a test of intellect and chess skills. Inmates engaged in mutual learning and showcased their abilities, making the competition a stimulating exchange of ideas. Throughout the matches, participants demonstrated strategic planning skills and learned to think calmly while showing respect for their opponents. Ultimately, the detention center awarded prizes to the winners as recognition of their achievements.

The director of the Nantou Detention Center stated that the goal of this chess competition was to offer inmates a healthy and positive activity platform, helping them cultivate patience and perseverance while fostering interaction and communication among them. Chess, as an intellectual game, allows inmates to train their minds, avoid accumulating agitation, and achieve emotional stability.

Participating inmates expressed that playing chess helped them calm down, providing a space for self-reflection in a high-pressure environment. They learned to make decisions under stress, a skill that would be beneficial for their future work and life after reintegration into society.

Since last year, the Nantou Detention Center has been actively planning a variety of recreational and cultural activities for this year. Through these activities, the center aims to guide inmates in building self-confidence and learning interpersonal skills and attitudes. In the future, the detention center will continue to organize various activities to help inmates cultivate a positive mindset and strengthen their mental resilience, preparing them for a successful return to society.

This chess competition not only provided inmates with an opportunity to relieve stress but also fostered deeper bonds among them. It represents another successful practice in the detention cente r's efforts to educate and rehabilitate inmates.
